The first step is the hardest

The first step is indeed the hardest.

And what's more, the first step entering the film world is harder than any other first step into any other world, work space, south African jungle, or high school algebra class that I have ever had the fortune of being a part of.

To take things further, I would wager that filming 'The Light Express' was the hardest first step into the hardest world to step into that has ever been...well...stepped! Forget you, grammar Nazis.

CHALLENGE

I hereby issue a challenge to indie and non-indie filmmakers alike to find one scenario in all of film making history that had half of the problems I now present before you.

During the production of a film have you ever:

-Filmed a musical fantasy on green screen in 4 days?

-Had little to no rehearsal time for at least half your actors/actresses? (I'm talking about rehearsing for dancing and singing too!)

-Gotten so little rest that sleep became a mere memory.

-Had 4 actors/actresses quit on you. Two of them within a week of your film shoot. One of them the day of?

-Driven an hour to the film studio only to have forgotten some dumpy brown bench that you needed for one of the scenes that day.

-Gotten so little rest that sleep became a thing of mythical proportions.

-Lived on a green screen for so long that you no longer comprehended the vast spectrum of color this world has to offer.

-Filmed a dance number at 5 in the morning when your mind could no longer process what your feet were telling you to do.

-Gotten so little sleep that...wait...sleep? What's sleep?

-So out of it that care bears begin enthrall your muddied mind.

-Sang with a mild form of bronchitis

-Wept as you listened to the melodious sound of an off key, chorus of zombified cast members. (note: I was one of those cast members so I can talk)

-So tired that cement green floors feel like mattresses made out of clouds and cotton candy with tiny baby cherubim tucking you in.

-Given yourself hair for the film, only to have it taken away...(sniff. That was me).

Boy oh, boy it was a rollercoster ride of baggey eyed hilarity, frustration, misunderstandings, awkwardness, and ALL AROUND FUN! As one of the actors, I vouch that such an experience was well worth it. I learned so much, and we actually got some really good footage!

The challenge has been issued filmmakers everywhere! I dare you to leave your comments below if you think you can top such a wacky filmmaking ride!
